Flat Feet
Flexible flat foot → Fallen longitudinal arch of the foot usually due to laxity of the ligamentous structures supporting the arch
Fallen arch in weight bearing position but arch forms again in non weight bearing or heel raise recreates the arch of the foot
Rigid flat foot → no arch of the foot is seen during non weight bearing position, heel raise or big toe extension.
In toddlers they typically assume a flatfoot posture due to their attempt to maintain a balanced posture
In most children the medial longitudinal arch develops between ages 3-10 years of age.
