Tennis Elbow

  • Irritation of the tendon of the muscle, extensor carpi radialis brevis, that attaches to the outside of the elbow

  • May be due to overuse of the finger and wrist extensors with grip intensive activities such as gardening, typing, cooking and tennis

  • Occurs during tennis when you follow through with the racquet, controlling the wrist and slowing it down

  • Signs/symptoms:

    • Pain along the outside of the elbow that increases with finger and wrist extension (bending wrist toward arm)

    • Dull/achy, may be sharp

    • Weakness in hand and forearm 

    • Typing on a keyboard or opening, closing or squeezing hands
